What can I say. We are LUCKY. The Palio of July 2023 is ours. We won again. This is the 7th time since I was baptized into the Contrada of the Selva. They call us buconi which means big ass which is a term for lucky. You can see the race here 2 July 2023.
The horse is Violenta da Clodia and the jockey is Giovanni Atzeni (nickname Tittia) who has won for us now 3 times.
We knew we had a good chance of winning as soon as Violenta was selected for us. You can see it here (start from the 9 minute mark)
After the win of course we celebrate. Here you can see the celebration right after we won.
Then there is the Giro the following day. Basically walking the whole city showing off the drappellone (the Palio banner we won) or as we call it, il cittino (the baby). This is followed by days of celebrations and dinners then on the following Sunday, the Corteo della Vittoria (victory parade).
